Despite early criticism, I stuck with this title because of the same promise I saw when this book was announced last summer. And boy is it paying off now. This issue and the last are some of the most entertaining pages in the last few months of the DCnU. While some are letting anger over revised histories cloud their ability to read the book, what see is a book full of action with new and unique character dynamics and the freshest title I'm reading in the New 52.
This issue picks up in a bar in Colorado, Roy Harper lamenting how Jason dragged his alcoholic self inside. Of course, Jason proceeds to kick someone's ass indiscriminately and blow their cover. Because of course Jason is, if nothing, discrete. Of course the arresting officer turns out to be the baddie from the "Untitled."
Starfire has her own side mission in this story, as she faces off this dragon-mutant hell bent on destroying her after her Tamarian War Cruiser crashed landed on Earth, killing the dragon-mutant's (at that time he was human) parents. This fight starts to reveal Starfire's history (something way up in the air now) and also starts to reveal Starfire's own character traits and build on her character.
Besides the great dialogue, this issue also features a riveting ending -- as Jason Todd pulls out swords to battle this super-ancient-fighting-immortal-creature. Meaning that next issue there is going to be an awesome battle in which Jason is certain to do something badass and I can't wait!
What I liked: Great dialogue, cool characters, and as always Rocafort's art is so very, very cool. This book looks awesome. If he can work fast enough, DC would be wise to have him on multiple books. Red Hood and the Outlaws is quickly climbing the ranks of DC's best books.
What I didn't: I wished the reveal that the officer was a member of the "Untitled" would have been a little more complicated. That twist was a little obvious and quick-occurring. If writer Lobdell had created a mystery around it that would have been fun.
Conclusion: Other than Batman Inc., this is my favorite offering of the week, even over Snyder's Batman. 8.4/10 (B).
